Your Aortic Stenosis Treatment Options

There are several treatment options available for the patients who are diagnosed with aortic stenosis in Southeast Asia, which are:

• Balloon valvuloplasty (BAV)
  Doctors may recommend this treatment when patients begin to show up with severe aortic stenosis symptoms. However, it is a short-term approach as the valve will eventually become narrow again.
• Surgical aortic valve replacement
  This used to be the only option in the past to replace the diseased valve, which is through an open heart surgery.
• Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
  Since it was approved in 2008, TAVI or TAVR is an alternative to open heart surgery for patients with severe aortic stenosis. This new treatment option has been available in Southeast Asia since 2009.

Consult and discuss with your doctor to determine which treatment option is best suited for you based on the results of several tests and diagnosis. You may also be referred to a Heart Team in a heart centre for further evaluations before any decisions are made.
